Sixth Commandment = respecting human life
Welcome to another short article, this one being the Sixth of the Ten Commandments. This one, as Scripture shows, deals with the violent nature we see all around us in our world today, but many may not make that connection. It is prophesied that in the last days, it will again become as it was in the days of Noah. (Matt.24:37) What were those days like? Gen 6:13 And God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.” Their thoughts were evil continually, as it says in V.5.
The sixth Command is; Exo.20:13 "You shall not murder.” (NKJ) As previously stated, many in our world today cannot seem to make the connection. The Spiritual intent of this command is not taught to the masses of today’s world.
However, we should recall that Christ came to magnify the Law and did put this very 6th command in its spirit and intent. Isa 42:21 tells us; “The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; He will magnify the law, and make it honourable.” (KJV) Christ said of this 6th command in Matt 5:21-22 (emphasis and bolding mine throughout) "You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not murder,' and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment. 22 "But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. (The same penalty) And whoever says to his brother, 'Raca!' shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be in danger of hell fire.” (NKJ) So as we see here, people who have internal violence and hatred toward others is a spirit of murder, which requires the same penalty as the actual act of murder until or unless repented of.
A true Christian today is supposed to be known by the opposite of this, which is love.
John 13:34-35 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 "By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." (NKJ) 1Thes 4:9 “But concerning brotherly love you have no need that I should write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another;” (That is of course, IF we are paying attention to the word of God and what spirit may be leading. Luke 9:54-55 & 1John 4:1)
Sad to say, this spirit of “brotherly” love has waned considerably over the past three decades in the COG and it continues to degenerate within that realm, which is now divided up into many groups. However we also see this in the epistles of John to remind us; this is not good according to this Law or commandment of God; I Jn.3:10-12 “In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: (Made known) Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.”
(Isn’t it interesting how John put this “brotherly love” on the level with righteousness?) 11 For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, 12 not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother's righteous.”
Of course it should be understood that, just as Christ was indicating, Cain’s murder actually began in the heart and was premeditated. (Gen.4:5-8) Satan the devil was the actual influence behind that murder, for Christ also said of him that he was a murderer from the beginning. John 8:44 "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.” (So he is also the father of a murderous spirit, being the very reason he deceived Eve; to destroy mankind.) That will change when Christ sends the archangel to bind him and put him away (Rev.20:1-3) at the very beginning of the 1,000 year kingdom rule on earth. The heart of man will also be changed from this evil nature we have now, which has been acquired from Satan and his influence, as we grew up. (Eph.2:1-3 & 2Tim.2:26) Heb 8:10 shows this change to come; "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” (See also Jer.31:31-33) This will extend on out to everything living on earth during that time, man and animals as we see in this next passage;
Isa.11:6-9 "The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. 7 The cow and the bear shall graze; their young ones shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. 8 The nursing child shall play by the cobra's hole, and the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper's den.
9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.” Satan will have to be removed for this to come about. (See Binding Satan for more)
For those who claim to be Christians today, this attitude of hatred, murder; and even divisiveness and competition that now exists in the COG, breaks the 6th Commandment and has to be conquered before anyone can enter into the kingdom of God. It is the same attitude and approach of those Christ spoke of in Matt 5:19-20 "Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, (By actions or example) shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.20 "For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.”
The world is once again filling up with violence and that nature, as prophecy shows would come to pass. Many today in the COG feel they are superior to the rest of their brethren, because God may have allowed them to have a some level of success at preaching some truth to the world or building up an organization. However this spirit of brotherly love is missing and watering down truth is also present on some points, so this mind of being spiritually rich is self-deceptive, not seen by them because of the blindness; Rev 3:17 "Because you say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing'-- and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked“—this admonition to the COG is for us today. Those affected do not see this pertains to them, because they have this superior or neglectful mindset, which is the spirit of Loadicea.
It is clear that anyone who wants to be a true Christian today will have to be keeping the commandments in the spirit and intent as well as struggling to do so in the letter, in order to be in the kingdom of God. (James 2:8-13 & Rev.14:12) Rev 3:21-22 "To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. 22 "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."
The sixth Commandment still has to be kept in the spirit and the letter, to the best of our ability today, in spite of the world we live in if we are to be a true Christian!
